Mission
We are an experienced team highly trained in offering support and care to patients with dermatological manifestations associated with infectious, auto-immune, rare, neoplastic diseases or iatrogenic adverse events. We are committed to provide the highest quality service to all patients in a timely manner, with equal and easy access for all those who wish to attend our service, regardless of gender, sexual orientation, ethnicity and income. We are committed to collaborate with institutional and external partners in the development of innovative approaches to patient care and service delivery, as well as in the promotion of research.
Research Activity
Our UOSD is engaged in the following research activities:
- Development of new therapies for N. Gonorrhoeae infection through monoclonal antibodies and discovery of new antigens for vaccine development
- Participation in randomized clinical trials aimed at verifying the efficacy of new molecules or new combinations of antiretroviral drugs
- Burden of genital Herpes Simplex Virus-2 (HSV-2) infection in adults (multicentric epidemiological study)
- Analysis of oral and anal microbioma in immunocompetent and HIV-infected individuals with HPV infection
- Antigenic screening for C. Trachomatis L1-L3 serovars to investigate the burden of Lymphogranuloma Venereum (LGV) among MSM
- Clinical and epidemiological study on people living with HIV (coorte ICONA, multicentric prospective study)
- Epidemiological, clinical and prognostic characteristics of HIV-related neoplasias (ONCOICONA, multicentric prospective study)
- HPV infection in genital lesions of patients with Lichen sclerosus
- Clinical, pathological and prognostic determinants of HIV-related Kaposi Sarcoma (multicentric prospective study)
- Development of a web-based app to help maintenance of HIV care continuum among PLWH
- Monitoring of anxiety and depression among PLWH during COVID-19 pandemic
- Discovery of new biomarkers of systemic sclerosis, lichen sclerosus and cutaneous sclerosis
- Bacterial infections and biofilm sustaining ulcer chronicization
