PerfeTTO

PerfeTTO is the first Italian network made up of Technology Transfer Office (TTO) operating in the Life Science sector, financed with a public investment from the Ministry of Health through the National Plan for Complementary Investments (PNC) to the National Recovery and Resilience Plan (PNRR) Innovative Health Ecosystem E.3. The 8-year project, of which the first 4 (from 1 April 2023 to 30 September 2026) co-financed by the Ministry of Health, aims to encourage the national culture of Technology Transfer in the field of Life Sciences.
PerfeTTO brings together, in the form of a Temporary Purpose Association, 54 bodies of excellence located throughout the country (public and private IRCCS, Universities and Research Institutions). The HUB and Spoke organization assigns the “Centro Cardiologico Monzino IRCCS” the role of coordinating center, supported as 1st level Spoke by the “Istituto Romagnolo per lo Studio dei Tumori Dino Amadori (IRST)”, and by the “Ente Ospedaliero Specializzato in Gastroenterologia Saverio de Bellis IRCCS”. These Institutes will act in synergy with the 51 TTOs of the 2nd level Spokes to provide, implement and share training activities, best practices, guidelines, operational models, national and international databases, projects for the valorisation of research, also thanks to the implementation of a computing platform with artificial intelligence capabilities. Furthermore, the creation of an acceleration program aimed at TTOs is planned to finance the advancement of research projects with high Technology Transfer potential.
The final objective of the project is to connect the TTOs involved in a national reference network in the field of Life Sciences and to develop services, tools and resources useful for bridging the gap between research and innovation, promoting technological development and international valorisation. of our country's research.
The aim of the program is to create an innovative healthcare ecosystem, through the creation of excellent clinical-translational research networks within the National Health Service. Networks capable of sharing available technologies and existing skills. At the same time, capable of laying the foundations for implementing public-private interventions that operate in synergy to innovate, develop and create highly qualified employment opportunities, as well as promote development models of the country based on public research and the valorisation of its results.
The Network also aims to develop Technology Transfer activities and the creation of new innovative businesses (Start-Up and Spin-Off) in the Life Sciences sector. The already existing Technology Transfer structures, such as the Technology Transfer Offices (UTT) of the Universities and Public Research Bodies, the structures operating at the IRCCS and other bodies will be systematized and shared value by integrating and providing technical support. of the National Health Service, the regional TTOs, the TTO networks. Methodologies, resources, experiences, skills, tools, contacts and initiatives to promote the sector's technical-scientific offering will be shared. In parallel, specific training courses will be implemented for dedicated professional figures and new processes will be created for the promotion of innovations of interest to the market, the forms of protection of Intellectual Property and the most appropriate valorisation formulas, such as new applications for patent, industrial property rights, licensing agreements.
The project is structured into 7 distinct Work Packages (WP) all closely interconnected with each other.
WP1: Virtual platform
Expected results: creation of a platform that supports the Technology Transfer network and becomes the pivot around which PerfeTTO initiatives can revolve with a view to generating a national best practice.
Tasks: project management and monitoring, co-design and requirements analysis, analysis, tool design and development, platform validation testing.
WP2: Training
Expected results: improve the development of a business culture within PerfeTTO through training programs, Contamination Labs and practical workshops.
Tasks: creation of the Advisory Board, training programs for researchers and Network TTOs, field training programs, contamination laboratories.
WP3: Sustainability and legal affairs
Expected results: harmonization of procedures and contracts in the IP field, creation of networks of national and international alliances with third-party organisations, corporate partners and KOLs, guaranteeing the sustainability of PerfeTTO beyond the horizon of the financed intervention.
Tasks: coordination and transversal activities, sustainability, harmonization of procedures, Network.
WP4: Business Matching
Expected results: promote national and international business matching activities for the search for potential partners and/or investors, the receipt of feedback from users, the search for distributors or/end users and the subsequent sale of the product/service.
Tasks: mapping, stakeholder involvement, business matching and partnering events, customized hot topic events.
WP5: TT Accelerator
Expected results: creation of an acceleration program dedicated to TTOs aimed at funding PerfeTTO's most promising research projects.
Tasks: definition of the "TT Accelerator" program, establishment of the Advisory Board/Mentors, selection of projects, implementation of the program, monitoring, deliverables and ROI evaluation.
This is the WP which directly involves the “Istituti Fisioterapici Ospitalieri IRCCS (IFO)” together with: “Centro Cardiologico Monzino IRCCS”; “Istituto Europeo di Oncologia (IEO)”; “Fondazione IRCCS Ca' Granda Ospedale Maggiore Policlinico”; “Ospedale Pediatrico Bambino Gesù”; “Istituto Fondazione di Oncologia Molecolare (IFOM)”; “Istituti Clinici Scientifici Maugeri SpA”; “Università degli Studi di Parma”; “Università di Pisa”.
WP6: Dissemination and Communication
Expected results: diffusion, communication and awareness of stakeholders regarding the potential and products of the nascent PerfeTTO Network.
Tasks: growth of researchers, communication to industrial and financial partners, involvement of national and international institutions through dissemination actions, citizen awareness actions.
WP7: Project Management
Expected results: coordinate the implementation of the activities, monitor the technical-scientific progress of the project, carry out management and administrative-accounting controls, communicate with institutional interlocutors.
Tasks: governance, processes and communication, coordination, monitoring and control.
